Tuna- Ive been hearing a lot of chatter in the shop about local lure company Ron Z Lure Manufacturer as the hot bait so we just got in our first order of these soft plastics which are rigged with a Gamakatsu 4x strong Tuna Hook. I have not fished these myself but Fast Eddie of Fishy Bizness Charters hooked two this week casting RonZ's. There have been a lot of fish taken out off of Old Scantuma and the Outside Flag. There is a lot of herring in the deep waters between 300ft and 320ft of water with an occasional whiting mixed in. If you see tuna down deep on your fish finder they are probably feeding on those however one of the seabrook comercial boats hooked a giant on a live cusk. Also the Jig fish seem to be making a strong late season run. The color/size of choice has been 168g black/pur butterfly jigs.
Stripers- The fall run is just starting as we start to see the water temperatures decrease in the Merrimack River. There have been Bluefish out front but when we were out the majority of blues were down by Emerson Rocks. We hooked a bunch of Stripers on niner rigs trolled down deep at about two and a half knots. Most of the stripers were just past the Plum Island Jetty in 15ft of water. Drifting whole herring also produced some nice fish for us with an egg weight off the bottom. A bunch of stripers moved up onto Joppa Flats but the full moon is on the 4th so the nighttime guys will see a lot of short strikes.
