Crossroads Bait and Tackle Fish Report > lotsa striped bass
lotsa striped bass

Jun 5, 2011

There have been a ton of stripers being caught. Tube and worm has been working very well right in the river along Joppa Flats and the Toothpick. If you are fishing the mouth of the Merrimac River look for the birds working. Under the birds are small baitfish that are drawing in a lot of mackeral. This is generally happening anywhere outside right in approximately 30ft of water. grab a couple of live baits and throw them right out. Also check the edges of Joppa Flats about 2 and 1/2 hours after high tide. We saw a lot of fish finning there and they were taking everything we threw at them. We used white Sebile Stick Shad, Ron-Z's and Alewife Slug-go's yesterday. From the beach whole tinker Macks have brought in a lot of keepers, and Krocodile metals have done the trick. Fresh clams will get you a lot of action but be patient with the tinks for your larger fish. Offshore cod and haddock have pushed off the spawning grounds and we are seeing some action out at halfway hump for a short trip. If no luck there go north to Old Scantum and fish the Southeaster Side. Hammer Finished Diamond Jigs or bait with Esca Light rigged 18 inches above the double hooked rigs have been doing very well.
