Flounder Pounder
Flounder Pounder
Jun 18, 2011
Flounder have been hot in and out of the Merrimac River. When the stripers aren't hitting by the toothpick try some clam strips or sea worms for some flounder. If your in a boat head into about 14ft of water just south of the Plum Island Jetty and watch you fishfinder.
The Striper action continues to be hot with no signs of Bluefish yet. This morning there were multiple boats drifting the Mouth with whole tinkers (dead and alive) that limited out within a couple of hours. The troll out front has picked up significantly if you don't want to mess with the crowds in the mouth then try some Yozuri Hydro Squirts and Niner Rigs. Joppa Flats has produced some great striper action during the day. The night time bite showed some good size but with the full moon having just passed we had to work alot harder to hook fish. We broke 40inches a couple of nights out there but didn't have a lot of hook ups. If you don't have access to a boat don't worry the shore fisherman and surfcasters are producing their fair share of keepahs. Big soft plastics like slug-go's and hogy's have been working as well as whole tinker Macks.
Haddock fishing has been excelent out at the Curl. Get right on the edge before the drop off in about 220 ft of water. The window seems to be small so make a couple drifts before making your final decision on where to drop the anchor.
Tuna keep showing a little more and more. One stick boat brought in a 700 pounder into Newburyport, and a member of Cliff Jones a member of team Crossroads trolled up a nice 600 pounder On a pink spreader bar with a white stinger. Another Angler reported hooking up on a mackeral dangling from a kite. All the tuna action has been on the surface so keep your baits and rigs high in the water column.
Happy Fathers day and remember there is no better way to celebrate than taking dad out on the water.
