Summer Hours Starting at Crossroads
May 22, 2014
I'm late getting my reports started this year. We have been very busy getting everyone prepared for the salt life. Enough small talk, here's the word on the water. Schoolies are stacked up in the Merrimack River like chord wood with the occosional keeper mixed in. Keepers just started showing up more consistently within the last couple days, I got one last night throwing Savage soft plastics on Joppa right in front of the ramp. I've also been fishing up behind Carr Island with a lot of action. According to multiple reports I'd say your best bet to grab a keeper is dragging a tube and worm, unless you can get some macks. I heard some early season rumors last week of mackeral, however also talked to some guys who had no luck. I can usually find the macks out at Speckled Apron starting around May 23rd so It's worth a shot to check. Let me know if you guys find them, I wanna load up on freshies for the shop. This season has been an incredible shad season, and continues to produce on darts and small spoons. The Lawrence damn is reporting a very strong herring run, which will draw the big fish into the river very soon. Ground fishing has been up and down like a roller coaster ride so far this season, most days are showing a lot of action, but finding those haddock that meet the new size requirement of 21 inches is definitely adding a challenge and most of the large cod have been hanging out in the closed off spawning grounds, but are starting to move off the restricted area and out toward Jeffries Ledge. Good Luck, don't forget we offer the same great service on marine services(ie Tune ups, storage, outboard repair) as we do fishing needs. Officially starting this weekend we are open from 5AM to 10PM 7days a week, forget it Christmas this is the happiest time of year.
