Happy 4th of July
Jul 1, 2016
Should be a great long weekend fishing the waters around here. weather looks good and big stripers are around. There was a 52 incher caught down off the Salisbury Jetty and action continues to be good. Pogies are still around however the mackerel have gotten a lot tougher to catch and Pogies are always a gamble in this area. best local mack reports are coming off Hampton Shoal Ledge. We have been loading up at the Isle of Shoals lately for the shop. unfortunately its about a 22 mile round trip from the mouth of the Merrimack river however its the only sure bet for bait right now. The mouth has been getting better later in the outgoing tide with the top of the tide the fish seem to be a little finicky. couple hrs before low has been the best. Upriver towards Deer and Carr Island still continue to produce during the lower temp tides when the ocean water fills up however end of the outgoing and beginning of incoming are producing water temps too high for good striper fishing. A few bluefish have been starting to show up but no huge blitzes to report yet, any day hopefully.
Cod and Haddock fishing continues to be productive and half way hump is starting to show some better keeper ratios if you don't want to steam all the way to Jeffries. Earlier this season all the reports were only showing shorts in close. There are still a lot of small haddock at halfway but you definitely have some decent ground fish mixed in.
