Water Temp has been Key
Jun 23, 2018
Finally went out the mouth of the Merrimack River and saw some normal water temps for this time of year. Water temp out front has been low with a pocket of cold water sitting right in front of us that was holding just above 50degrees. Now that this has bumped up a couple degrees the mackerel fishing and the bait has come in stronger than the last couple weeks. The beachfront should pick up in action and there are some occasional pogy sightings happening as well.
As of recently we have still been hanging around in the River rom the RT1 bridge up to deer Island. down by the bridge we had a lot of luck using clams off the bottom and up river we have been throwing topwater spooks and SP Minnows. Joppa has had some excellent morning sight fishing however still inconsistent. Slack tide in the mouth was the time to fish yesterday, Yes I said slack tide. fishing macks on free line with a light weight.
The goal of haddock fishing is to catch haddock yet there is so much cod out there it's now stay away from the cod. Tillies has been producing a lot of haddock and fewer cod but you'll def see some real nice ones. had some reports of some keeper haddock on halfway hump if your looking for a short trip. Some real nice porbeagles coming in as well from Tillies area and southern Jeffreys.
