Tis the Season
May 24, 2019
The season is officially here! The schoolies are in pretty heavy right now with some keeper size fish trailing right behind them. There are some keepers being caught in-between all the schoolies downriver and near the mouth of the Merrimack that are in the 28"-33" range. Clams and sea worms are the bait of choice and the white savage paddle tails are the go to for lures. Most of the larger fish though, are headed right up the river to the Lawrence Dam to feed on the abundance of River Herring that are gathering up there. The 40" fish are just making it passed Cape Cod right now and are going to be here soon. The mackerel and pogies made an appearance and have been seen swimming in a few small schools here and there but nothing consistent enough to target yet.
Flounder fishing has been off to a bit of a slow start but has been starting to pick up. A lot of the action that is around right now is coming inside Hampton harbor on a good ole sea worm bouncing along the bottom.
Haddock fishing has been lighting up recently at the Prong. Typically they have been found in about 140' of water but have been spotted in up to 190'. There has been many different signs of life around right now in between all of the haddock. It is mostly cod in with the haddock but there is also a bunch of pollock, cusk and even a few wolf fish in the mix.
We also have started sign ups for our second annual "Crossroads Catch and Give Back" Charity Striper Tournament. it starts June 1st and ends August 31st with a prize for the longest fish at the end of each month. We are also planning a end of tournament party when it is over for all fishermen and families that participated. Come sign up next time you are in the shop for a chance to win.
